I have been drinking solid for nearly 3 years now with just a 2 week break a few weeks back but i relapsed so my doctor prescribed me librium but I am not sure if I am quit ready to come off them yet, if anyone could suggest a different kind of medication anything to help me get through the day and sleep at night would be greatly appreciated, i have started going to meetings but just need something to get me over this next few weeks, thank you in advance x
Van75; The Librium is just to help with the alcohol withdrawals You should talk to a doctor about getting something else to help you through the next few months and see hard to really say what would be good there are so many different medications and it depends on what your doctor thinks. Do it today so you don't slip backwards good luck Chuck1957
Dear Van57, you are lucky to have a Dr. that cares enough to give you medication.
Quitting Alcohol is just like quitting any other drug, your physical and emotional self might fight this because it is a drastic change to mind and body.
The hard truth is a Drug is a Drug. Using one drug to get off of another is kind of like playing with fire. Eventually you will need to deal with the situation without the use of a drug. It is no fun, but it is worth it. The point is to let yourself feel, and learn who you are and what makes you tick. This is usually the only way we can get free from the Demon. Meetings are a great way of helping us do this. So many of us do not want to go through this kind of pain, but covering it up with another drug will just prolong the healing process. Go to meetings and find a sponsor or support person. Someone who has gone through this will be able to understand your struggle and help you along the rough spots. I have been struggling with relapse for 30 years. I tried doing it on my own. I used other medications to help ease the pain. I went to a hundred different groups and treatment centers, but never truly let anyone in. I finally learned that I need to let go of my way of thinking and allow others to know me and help me. Today I have 1 year of sobriety. I am a different person, and it is hard to believe how many years I stayed stuck.
Good Luck to you, and may you be Blessed,
