Would be the equivilancy in Opana? My pain Dr. hasn't told me and I'm trying to figure out what the cost difference would be. And yes I called and asked but she would not say.
A direct conversion of oral morphine to oral oxymorphone is about 100mg morphine = 33.3mg oxymorphone. He probably wont start you on that high a dose because he will need to reduce a bit for cross tolerance. Even though you are tolerant to morphine, you may not have the same tolerance to oxymorphone so he will likely reduce the dosage by 25%-50% to start and then see how you react and go from there. You may do fine with the original conversion dose or you may need it raised a bit. I would guess he will likely start you out at 10mg twice a day (for a total of 20mg/24hours which is about a 25% reduction) of Opana ER and he may keep you on the MSIR or he may try Opana immediate release at 5 mg.for a breakthrough dose. Just keep the lines of communication open with him. Give it a good week or two trial. It can take a while when you rotate drugs to see how it will do. You may have some slight withdrawal symptoms the first few days. This is pretty normal. They should pass but if they dont, just let the office know.
