I've been taking fluoxetine for just over five weeks and can't decide if I should tough it out or just go cold turkey. I started taking it because I suffered a panic attack because I've been stressed out over finding a new job. I originally started on 20 mg for the first few days because they were given to me by my mother who takes them, then I dropped down to 10 mg after I saw a psychiatrist. I've had terrible side effects (increased anxiety, intrusive thoughts, irritability, insomnia, fast heart rate, drowsiness, etc). I know you should be careful when stopping SSRI's, but I'm pretty fed up right now. Any advice would be appreciated.
I took fluoxetine for 1 month and felt terrible on them and despite my doc telling me to stay on them to help me feel better, I hated how the medicines made me feel so I stopped. After stopping, I had no adverse side effects even though I quit cold turkey. I don't think 5 weeks is enough to get addicted but then again everyone is different. You should taper off them to be as safe as possible but I didn't care if I was safe or not hence cold turkey. But I do recommend you do it responsibly and taper off. Please be safe.
Hope I helped.
