I am having minor surgery in April and Dermatologists do not put you to sleep for a 45 minute removal of skin cancer. I will panic, so my doctor suggested taking this drug 30 minutes before. I HATED relying on any meds. to get me thru, but am considering this. Any thoughts?
Trust the Dr. However, they will give you a local so you really don't need the med in the first place.
Which do you hate worse, the anxiety or the Ativan?
Take the Ativan. It will not only reduce the anxiety but reduce memories of the procedure that may bring lingering anxieties. When I had my wisdom teeth removed they used IV Valium for this reason. It was SOP.
You wouldn't think it shameful to have the local anesthetic. It blocks the physical pain. Similarly the Ativan reduces the emotional pain and emotional memories. I mean if a doctor offers an opioid to relieve post surgical pain you wouldn't think that shameful.
Take the Ativan. It's just a single dose.
Hi, if the Ativan is just a one off (short term) treatment then you have nothing to worry about. I understand the feeling of the tugging (inc. stitching) when having surgery (after being given a local anaesthetic) and it isn't nice. It won't hurt but it can cause you to feel a bit nauseous hey! If you have no reaction to Benzodiazepines and it won't affect the 'local' then i would take it, personally.
