I will like to withdraw from taking Ambien.
Citalopram (Celexa) may make you drowsy, but not like Ambien will. There are better alternatives for insomnia such as Trazodone or Seroquell.
I am new to the group and the site so am just getting acclimatized to how things work. I do not take ambien but have started taking citalopram recently. I am on a dose of 20 mg and have been on this for 17 days now. The two main problems I have with this drug re side effects are feeling nuaseous and being sleepless. I have found it very hard to get a proper nights sleep. I now take my dose at 12 pm and my body is getting more used to processing it before I turn in at 11pm. It is getting better and I am finding i am gradually sleeping longer each night, although 5/6 hrs is the maximum I can currently do.
I try to concentrate on sleep hygiene as I do not want to take any more meds. I try and get enough fresh air in the day and exercise to make me feel more tired. I do not watch tv or films after 10pm and then get into a routine of having hot milk and half a banana before I turn in as both contain tryptophan which aids sleep. I listen to meditation tapes and practice deep breathing exercises sometimes as well and have found that this helps as well. I guess whatever works for you - I hope that this maybe helps in some way!
Good luck and I hope you will soon get a better nights sleep consistently.
