I have been a pain patient for 10 plus years I am legally disabled I currently am taking 6 - 30 mg morphine IR pills for break through pain which I want to get down to a more reasonable number. I am starting to get a tolerance to the exalgo but I don't want to become totally tolerant to then like I did the fyntanyl patches.
what kind of doctor are you going too for these meds because your defly not being prescribed them correctly. Exalgo is suppose to be taking once to twice a day and take regular diludid for break thru pain. It's hydromorphine. No wonder you're tolerance is so high.
Next thing you get is methadone.
The opiate conversion page I was using kept converting ER dilaudid to morphine not oxymorphone but the equivalent in oral morphine is 218 mg. I know that's not what you were looking for but I'm on 8 8mg dilaudid a day period. I find that taking more of a "breakthrough pain" medication works better then an extended release & a breakthrough pain drug does. My background is almost the same as yours as your a chronic pain patient for 10 yrs and I am also and also legally disabled so I'm sure you've bounced around different meds as I did to come up with what works for me. Maybe the same will work for you, sorry I couldn't get the conversion in mg of opana but the equivalent amount in oral morphine should help. Good luck
I would just like to know where you can get that many Exalgos and how do you pay for them. My insurance company will only pay for 2 per day and no exception. They are $13-$20 each at retail pharmacies. BTW I like Exalgos much better than Opana ER. Plus you will build a tolerance to all of them.

Currently on Exalgo 32,8 and hydromorphone 4mg as needed, not working great. How does Opana compare?
