In my experience with amitriptyline the answer is yes. I have found that the side effects if stopped too quickly are quite uncomfortable. For myself I had to reduce by 5mg per week which took some math skills but you may be able to reduce by 10mg a week which is easier because amitriptyline comes in a 10mg size pill. I would not reduce more than 10mg a week though. Best of luck.
