The Doctor has me taking 3600 mg. daily for Pain, along other pain pills. Will taking this much hurt me?
I'm prescribed 3000mg a day & your dose is just one more tablet a day then I'm on so I'd assume it's safe, but I did see a doctor who was not my P.C.P & they seemed to think it was a high dose but didn't change it for the short time I saw him which was only because of I was out of the town where my doctor is. I hope this helps by at least showing you that it's not a dose that is not prescribed. Good luck.
If you are asking the question about neurontin (gabapentin), a dosage of up to 4800 mg a day in three divided doses is considered safe, the reason being that the bioavailability or amount of medication your body is actually able to use, is a lot less than the amount being taken. One should notice a decline in pain scores (1 being the best to 10 being the worst pain) in about one week.
This drug is also given for seizures, and anyone taking this medication for seizures should wear a medic alert bracelet to allow emergency health care providers that informtion if you can't tell them.
So, the answer to your question is NO, but I would certainly keep my doc posted on any changes in pain contrrol I have been having, if any
