I have been taking 1mg of Klonopin at bedtime for 2 weeks now to help me sleep. It is not working. I go to bed and once I am asleep my mind starts racing and it will not stop. It's like I am not even asleep. I feel like I am right in the middle of what is going on in my mind. I toss and turn a lot during the night. I see my psychiatrist next Wednesday. I do not know what to do.
Follow this link about Clonazepam: https://www.drugs.com/sfx/klonopin-side-effects.html
In amongst the more common side effects were sleepiness and trouble with sleeping; Please read all of it. If you can read the information for professionals that would be good too as the guide is FDA approved : (https://www.drugs.com/pro/klonopin.html) where it is clear that it's uses are severe anxiety/panic disorders or as an anti seizure medication. My advice would be not to take one anywhere near bedtime as it not meant to help you sleep or even induce sleep.
Good luck, Steve
I answered this earlier but someone decided to have it deleted; given that 2 links were given for references were both from Drugs.com.
Firstly Klonopin (Clonazepam) is indicated for severe anxiety / panic disorder and as an anti seizure medication as well as a few other things.
One of the interesting parts of the side effects link: ( https://www.drugs.com/sfx/klonopin-side-effects.html ) is that sleepiness and sleeplessness are both listed as common side effects. Given that Clonazepam has a relatively long half life maybe taking it earlier rather than just before bed might be an idea. If it is a real problem for you, talking to a GP might well be helpful.
The two other links: uses and dosage etc. : https://www.drugs.com/klonopin.html
and the second one which gives more detail, instructions (product insert) and the results from clinical trials https://www.drugs.com/pro/klonopin.html
Good luck, Steve
Sorry this was not as comprehensive as the deleted post.
I also take 1 mg of Klonopin but it really does little to help me sleep. I was taking Xanax and that was great. But I messed up. I took it every night for 3 months and I became physically dependent on it. Thus I was switched to Klonopin.
Some nights I take an antihistamine called Promethazine. I usually need 100 mg to nod out. The bad thing is once I do I sleep 12 hours. So it's not an every night med. I really don't think there is such a thing.
