the 1 mg worked at first but now its now working very well amd im scared to ask my doctor.
Depends how much you want to look like a drug seeker. I would talk to your doctor, but it depends how much the doctor likes their medical license. Doctor are losing the licenses for prescribing 2mg 4x a day. If you have a change in lifestyle like something traumatic/stressful you maybe able to get 2mg 3 times a day. Benzos aren't suppose to be taken for a long period of time and I understand you do get used them quickly. I just asked my doctor for 1mg 4x and he said that would be huge red flag in family court as me being a drug seeker. I'm going through a huge custody battle so I'm very stressed out and taking the other anxiety meds aren't an option because the side effects are more harmful. Benzos are the only meds they are able to prescribe me.
Also are you going to therapy?
I wouldn't specific ask the doctor for 8mgs a day which is a hefty dosage. I would discuss your symptoms with the doc and let him know the 4 mgs alprazolam isn't working. There are many other type medications to choose from for anxiety which your doc may or may not be familiar with such as antidepressants or a med called BuSpar.
Asking to double your dose is a huge red flag. The doctors have to come to the conclusion on their own. I get Xanax from pain doc, and if I went in and asked for double, he would hand me a referral to therapy, and possibly a letter of dismissal.
Well, as factfinder, Laurie Shay, chelleka said... 8 mg a day of Xanax is a dose must doctors would not prescribe... I was on 1 mg 3x a day for years... my shrink said that was the highest dose he allowed. and he would not treat patients who took the "bars"
As mentioned earlier, Antidepressants and Buspar help with anxiety... and may help you cope with a lower dose of Xanax
