First off, because you have been taken mobic for over 15 years it would be in your best interest to speak with your Doctor before you abruptly stop taking mobic.
What long-term side effects are you afraid of? I believe the most serious long term side effects are stroke, heart attack and lower GI symptoms.
If you have pain and flexibility problems due to your RA, you might ask your doctor if you could be switched to an anti-malarial medication such as Plaquenil. Plaquenil,(hydroxychloroquine) works by suppressing the immune system from over producing inflammation throughout your body.
Although I have never taken Mobic, for my Lupus (SLE), I do take Plaquenil.
Lastly, when my joints are stiff I also take Flexeril for mobility.
Take care & feel better!
