i have been taking 10mg oxycodone 10mg x3 and 30mg x2 extended release morphi daily would contin be a better choice for my liver? i have severe back pain.
Since no one has come forth I will say 3 things: first. Just google each drug asking for damage to liver and look on some medical sites. You will know a lot after that. Next ask your pharmacist for an opinion. They know more about that stuff than most people. Finally my experience has been that I didn't care for morphine as a pain reliever but only took small amounts. For 5plus years I have taken 80mg.oxycontin every 8hrs which is extended release and 10 to 15mg oxyIR about 2 to 3 times every 24hrs and 600mg ibuprofen once or twice in 24hrs and have had good liver function according to regular tests by a lab my dr.uses. I don't use alcohol. You don't say whether you already have liver problems either. I hope this was helpful :}
Oxycodone as in oxycodone hydrochloride (not percocet or other acetominophen containing formula of oxycodone) is primarily excreted by the kidneys. Morphine sulfate extended release is also primarily excreted by the kidneys. So neither of these medications are adversely affecting the liver unless you are taking a formula of oxycodone that contains acetominophen which may adversely affect the liver.
You asked about contin? Don't know whether you are asking about MS contin which is morphine sulfate extended release or Oxycontin which is oxycodone hydrochloride. So either way, you are ok with the effects on the liver.
Hope this helps,
Yes I also take oxycodone HCL 10mg 3 to 4 times a day and I can say.That it is definetly not as hard on your liver as other narcotics that are in combination with tylenol.In my opinion any narcotic that doesn't have tylenol is better for your liver.That's why my doctor recently switched me over to OXYCONTIN(oxycodone)because it is a stand-alone ingredient and doesn't have tylenol added in with it.Hope this helps and please stay away from the tylenol.LOL :D
