Hi, I am moving from India to Germany for an year. I am taking Tacrolimus pangraf & cellcept post transplant as per suggested by doctor. I am worried whether I can carry these medicines to Germany or not. Also I'd like to know whether the same medicines are available there or not.
By chance I found your question and by chance I know:
Yes, "Pangraf" is on the market in Germany. Same company, "Panacea Biotec" as in India, affiliate, however brand is different: name of product is "Tacpan" in Germany, but it's the same product, strengths: 0,5mg, 1mg and 5mg Tacrolimus per cap.
Also "Cellcept" is available, same brand, from Roche. Meanwhile there are some generic products as well, also Panacea Biotec in Germany has a generic mycophenolate product called "Mowel".
Regarding customs at entry to Germany I don't know. I think you should carry not too much supply with you but for your personal need for a limited period of time this should not be a problem. Moreover it might be helpful to have a short statement from your transplant doctor mentioning that you personally need these drugs. This is a recommendation, I have heard some time ago, for patients who are leaving Germany, e.g. to go on vacation.
For longer period (like your stay of one year) you would have to get your drugs prescribed from a doctor here and pick them up in a pharmacy. Please note these drugs are expensive, be sure you have an insurance covering the costs for doctors and drugs also in Germany.
Hope this information does not come too late and it will help you.
Enjoy your stay!
Pete from Germany
