when cut in half appears to contain a substance similar in appearance to soft cheese.or have i been given a placebo ?
Many drugs, usually extended release drugs have what is called a drug "matrix" which is a kind of delivery system. What you see passing in the stool is the matrix or shell. It may look like the whole pill but you have absorbed all the drug from the matrix. Some have microscopic holes where the drug is released throughout the digestive system. You didnt give the name of the drug so I cant tell you for sure but you can always look the drug up or ask your pharmacist. K Tabs potassium supplements are one pill that has matrix technology and here is the description:
K-Tab (potassium chloride extended-release tablets) is a solid oral dosage form of potassium chloride containing 10 mEq and 20 mEq of potassium chloride, USP, equivalent to 750 mg and 1500 mg of potassium in a film-coated (not enteric-coated), wax matrix tablet. These formulations are intended to slow the release of potassium so that the likelihood of a high localized concentration of potassium chloride within the gastrointestinal tract is reduced. The expended inert, porous, wax/polymer matrix is not absorbed and may be excreted intact in the stool.
