I had the swollen tongue with my Burning Mouth Syndrome ( After a dental procedure) and it was also very painful. I cut paper towels in to 3' pieces. Then I wet & rolled them. I put them in the freezer. I would hold the frozen rolls on my tongue for some relief. I tried Popsicles, but it hurt too bad to suck them. I avoided spicy foods and foods with acid because they made the pain worse. I also took Benadryl according to the doctor's orders. It didn't help with the swelling but it eased the pain.
