Has anyone on here failed on the EMSAM Patch
Don't know other than not used a lot. But most still take the tablets, Now the doctor is taking you off of this then a break prior to starting the LUVOX unless they are going to watch you very close Emsam is one of the MAOI medications and many times they have to wait up to 2 weeks prior to starting other medications due to Interactions. Just so you know for OCD and Depression they have had very good results from Luvox once you get to the right blood level so anyway, you may have a tough time during the adjustment period depending on how the doctor changes your medication. Be aware of this and listen well when you are talking to your doctor about how long before you start the Luvox. good luck hopes this makes for a much better 2016 for you. Chuck1957
I've been on Emsam transdermal patch since shortly after it was introduced in early 2006. I went through the 2 week period to remove all other antidepressants from my system. I started with the 6 mg / 24 hour dose (the smallest patch).
My Doctor, who I respect and trust completely, told me that it would take 4 to 6 weeks to get the full benefit of Emsam. Between the 2 week "flush out" period and the 4 to 6 week period waiting for the positive effect of Emsam it was a difficult time for me. However, about 4 weeks after starting Emsam I began to feel better - much better.
While it may be a difficult 6 to 8 weeks to clean out other drugs and begin to feel the benefits of Emsam, the time was well worth it in my opinion. Follow your Doctor's advice and don't give up on Emsam to quickly.
I remain on Emsam to this day (January, 2017) - now using the 9mg /24 hour patch. I've never felt better in my life.
Please remember to follow all of the food and drug interaction instructions when using Emsam. It's not that difficult to follow the guidelines.
I also recommend wearing a medical alert bracelet or necklace and getting or making a wallet or purse card (I made my own wallet card out of an Emsam wrapper.) Medical personnel need to know that your are using Emsam in the event you are taken to a hospital and are unconscious.
