If anyone can give me some clear-cut information I would be so appreciative. I was on the effexor XR 75mg for about 12 years. It was a generic but then the generic was discontinued. I started having daily anxiety. It took me about a month to wean off of the Effexor and I am now on Lexapro 10 mg for 2 weeks. My husband who is a physician said that my brain has gone through a chemical blender... I agree. I have had gastric upset which seems to be getting better now but I have daily anxiety on this Lexapro. Some boards say that this is a side effect but after scouring Lexapro's website they do not list this as a side effect (the anxiety). Honestly don't think I can go through another weaning process to start a medication. Has anybody had this experience and does it go away. By all accounts Lexapro should be working within 2 to 4 weeks. The very first week on it I felt very good. No anxiety. But this past week I have it daily.
MY3LABS; Yes everything you have said is what to expect with these type of medication on the Lexapro it's great that you made it through a week without any side effects. The way it works is when you first start the medication That is when we get the worset or the side effects for 1 or 2 weeks such as increased ANXIETY, hard to sleep but remember most people these side effects go away after being on it for at least 2 weeks then they will go away by 4 weeks or so you well feel better and for sure by 6 to 8 weeks is when you get to the blood level you really need and should feel good by than Now as you know we are all different and the chemicals in these just change the chemical balance in us. Try to be patient the time zones I put are more the common for people give or take a few day. Hope that helps and if we can help in any way just drop us a note again. By the way, it is best to take this about the same time each day like always in the morning or evening.
This helps with your blood level and for you to remember that you have taken it. have a great day just keep telling yourself these do go away. And most do pretty well on this one.
How did your switch work. I have been on venlafaxine for 5 months got up to 112.5 and blood pressure rose and wasn’t working well. Got down to 75XL. And my psychiatrist started me on Lexapro 5mg. Along with 75 venlafaxine. How long did it take to fully get of the venlafaxine and only on Lexapro.
Common (1% to 10%): Abnormal dreams, agitation, anxiety, nervousness, restlessness"
"Some side effects of escitalopram may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects."
"Side effects have been reported to be generally mild and transient. They are most common during the first 2 weeks of treatment and decrease in intensity and frequency with continued treatment. They generally do not lead to treatment cessation."
Hope this helps!
