... below my belly button. When I pulled the needle out, a large drop of blood came out. I have a bruise around the site that is about 2 inches across. Has anyone else had this happen? Is this OK?
All the literature I have received on arthritic injectables show that he sites are to the left and right of the belly button, not below!!! You can also inject on the upper thighs.
My guess is that you hit a minor, hopefully, sub-cu blood vessel. The remaining blood stayed internal and then turned black and blue ... typical. Next time, unless your instructions tell you to inject at the same place, try the other two sites. You can google for literature on Enbrel, Simponi, methotrexate, etc. and most likely you will find the instructions. At least, I hope so. If not, try what I mentioned above. I have used those sites for the past fifteen years. I'm still standing. :-)
