Took zoloft 50mg for 8 yrs with no problems in may I experienced a bad panic attack was increased to 75 which after about 8 weeks was increased to 100 bc of break thru aniexty. It has now been about 6 weeks and dr wants to increase to 125 it has now been over three months dealing with increases. Should I increase or ask for a different medication. I am worried about withdrawal from one medication to another. Dr has suggested increases and not switching meds bc Zoloft did work for such a long period of time
Just wanted to let you know I was on Lexapro and had to get off of it because I was misdiagnosed as having depression when in actuality I was Bipolar. Lexapro in some people with Bipolar will cause them to go into a sever manic state which caused a lot of problems in my life. I just wanted to let you know getting off of lexapro was pure hell. This is coming from a person who had to get off of Vicodin twice. Not from abuse of it just long time use needed. Vicodin was a piece of cake to get off of compared to Lexapro I tapered off like I was told to do and when I stopped taking it all together I went into a sever depression for 2 months. I was on Seroquol and Topimax during this time.
I was on Lexapro for several months. It seemed to work reasonably well but I had to come off of it due to cardiac concerns: I suffer from episodic atrial fibrillation and my cardiologist felt that the Lexapro might be contributing to the occurrence of episodes. Lexapro (as well as Celexa) is one of the few SSRIs that has a cardiac warning associated with it. My brother was on Lexapro for a while but it quit working for him. He is now on 150 mg of Zoloft and doing really well. Bottom line is seems it would be a good idea to explore higher doses of Zoloft before switching.
Zoloft was one of the first anti depressants I was put on. I was happy with it since I experienced minimal side effects. I had 2 increases before it stopped doing its job after a bad breakdown. It was discovered by a well educated psychiatrist to be put on a low dose of lithium to elevate my low levels. I'm not bipolar but it aided some but hated weight gain. One thing I do remember is I didn't have withdrawals since New med was off similar components. Was weaned offZoloft in 4 days while also starting new med. I've changed meds because they couldn't keep.up for long haul. I've now been on Effexor.CR for over 4 years. Earlier this year Dr decided to tag team my depression, anger, anxiety with 2 mg of abilify . I am a female therefore prone to crying or sensitivity but nothing that lingers like before. It has helped in a refreshing way.
If u want to keep your Zoloft, ask about pairing it with abilify. Good luck
P.S. Lexapro btw, was horrifying to try out. Stopped after 2weeks!
