FDA Approves KedRAB [rabies immune globulin (Human)] for Post-Exposure Prophylaxis of Rabies Infection

Fort Lee, NJ/Rehovot, Israel – August 25, 2017 - Kedrion Biopharma and Kamada Ltd. (NASDAQ and TASE: KMDA), two leading human-derived protein therapeutics companies, today announced that KedRAB™ [rabies immune globulin (Human)] has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for passive, transient post-exposure prophylaxis of rabies infection, when given immediately after contact with a rabid or possibly rabid animal. KedRAB should be administered concurrently with a full course of rabies vaccine. Rabies is a life-threatening condition that impacts approximately 40,000 people in the U.S. each year, representing an annual market opportunity of $100 million-plus. 'Immunotherapy' in Monkeys Shows Promise as Long-Term HIV Treatment

MONDAY, March 13, 2017 – Lab experiments with monkeys suggest that "immunotherapy" holds promise as a long-term treatment for HIV, researchers say. Treatment with two anti-HIV antibodies right after infection might help keep the AIDS-causing virus in check for a prolonged period, according to the new study. Despite an arsenal of HIV drugs, effective long-term treatment remains elusive because inactive versions of the virus lie in wait for an opportunity to attack the immune system, said the researchers from Rockefeller University in New York City and the U.S. National Institutes of Health. -- Rabies is a dangerous disease that can be transmitted to animals and people alike via the bite of an infected animal. To help prevent spreading the disease, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests: Schedule regular visits with a veterinarian to make sure your pet is up to date on the rabies vaccine. Make sure pets are always under your control. If possible, keep dogs, cats, ferrets and other pets indoors. If you spot a stray animal in your neighborhood, call animal control.
