How do I skip my next period while on Kariva BC?

I am going on vacation and have heard you can skip a period while on BC pills. Do I just take all 21 white "active" pills and not take the last 7 pills (2 green and 5 blue)? Is this safe to do? If so, should my period return to normal once I go through my next pack?
