I haven't had other drug-related or even food-related allergic reactions in the past, but am a bit skittish about all of the allergic reactions reported to Sulfamethoxazole. I took Benicar HCT for 2 years with no issues and believe HCT to be a sulfanomide in the form of a diuretic, but not sure that's a good indicator of sulfa sensitivity or not?
I've taken ciprofloxacin, z-pak, and 1-2 other antibiotics with no severe side effects over the course of my 42 years - am I likely fretting over nothing? The closest thing to a reaction I've ever had to anything is tingling in my tongue after taking a dose of Aleve. Very mild seasonal allergies - itchy, light runny nose, some patchy skin dermatitis.
I generally don't get sick; this is a 3-week prescription to treat suspected prostatitis, so I'll be on it for more than the typical 7-10 days.
