Blood found in diarrhea is a side effect of Sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim when prescribed by a doctor. The rate of incidence isn't known. I assume the same would hold true whether the drug were self-prescribed or not. Occult blood is simply blood present in stools or diarrhea that the human eye can't see but is found by a simple lab test.
