i am currently on opana er 40 mg, what is a suitable alternative?
Are your new formulated Opanas no longer working like they used to, as far as pain relief goes? I ask this question because I noticed a dramatic difference in the old oxycontin and the newly reformulated oxycontin. If this is the reason for the question, I found Suboxone a great pain reliever, the problem being finding a doc who will prescribe for pain relief and not taking you off of opiates. Another suggestion, ask your focus, might be methadone.
Just sayin'. Talk to your doc.
If you are on the new formulation, there have been a lot of complaints about it not working as well. You should alert your doctor right away. There are many alerternatives, & only your doctor is the best judge of what that might be. Maybe a breakthru med til you adjust to the new formulation? Just my thoughts... Mary
My thoughts for OPANA ER v/s OXYCONTIN OP.. Opana was better. Take with 8-10 ounces of water to digest. (both) I cannot compare others. You may need an increase if you are experiencing more pain on Opana, but the fluids did help with both. Must be taken away from food and other meds. Just my thoughts, hope this helps.
Great question, there are ALOT of people looking for that answer. But as Mary said it is a question for your dr. I have been on the Opana ER 40 mg for 7 yrs & it was the best medication I found to make my pain at least "manageable". Since they recently
re-formulated the pills to the non crushable coating they are Not effective for most people. During the several shortages that Opana has gone thru my pain Dr. has tried me on several different Opiates.
But none of them seemed to work so I have an appointment next week to see my pain mngmnt dr.
Most of the complaints have been that it takes a couple of hours to breakdown the "goo" that is around the medication & then the wait for the medicine to enter into the system. Then the medication I have found I usually get maybe 5-6 hours of relief out of a 12 hour medication.
I know several members on this sight are going to or have already went off this medication. And several are talking about a lawsuit between the 2 shut downs & the shutdown to change to the latest reformulation.
So I would suggest that you go & see your pain dr. I an sure he will be aware of the problems. I wish you luck & hope you can find some relief soon.
