I have tried Celexa, Effexor (extended release), and Zoloft [3 1/2 Weeks in] and I still feel like I'm fighting off suicidal thoughts. I cry myself to sleep because I know the real me doesn't want these thoughts. I am diagnosed OCD, so please any suggestions on medications would be so beneficial. I am on the max dose of Zoloft.
Losing hope. What can I do to help find the right med for me? Any suggestions? Is there better psychiatrist docs than others?
Newbie with all of this. Please help.
Hi, Kaleigh! I wish I could share a magic trick but the fact is the only hope is patience and perserverence. A recent study showed that about 2/3 of depressed patients had to try 3 or more different medications before finding the one that worked for them and you have to try a medication for a minimum of 6-8 weeks to get the full benefits.
You might also talk with your doctor about adding an antipsychotic like Abilify or a similar drug which acts on it's own but also boosters the efficacy of your antidepressant.
Kaleigh, I know how hard it can be because you sound just like me a few years ago but I promise you that you you will find your solution and it will be SOOOO worth the effort.
Best wishes to you for health and happiness, WCV
Hi Kaleigh, sorry to hear how much you have been suffering with all of this. I have been in the same position so i know how very hard it can be... You might want to discuss with your doctor/psychiatrist about trying a combination treatment? I have a multi-diagnosis and take a combination of 3 medications (including an antidepressant and an antipsychotic) for my mental health, which all work very well together. I have been on this combination for years now and am in a much better place
Please don't give up !!! Even though you may feel like things are hopeless they are not. Have you had your Thyroid checked ? I had no idea my thyroid was "Out to Lunch"... Lol The way it was explained to me & I was able to understand (some Doctors don't agree) Basically your at the Mercy of your thyroid gland, (if your thyroid could talk) It might say something like, I'm not going to allow your medication to work today or Go back to bed cause I'm slowing everything in your body down... Lol I also would Emotionally "Ping" I would be so Happy & then it would happen I'd go from Happy to Homicidal & All the Emotions in between, all in about 0.001% of a second !
Anyway, If it's a Thyroid issue that can be taken care of quick. If it's not a Thyroid issue, that's Okay too, Your Doctor, if he/she is anything likke mine, Just keep on trying until y'all find the right medicine or even a combination.
Hope I've given you some encouragement, just keep on keepin' on
