I have been adding flaxseeds to my tossed salad for the past two days and I have been experiencing diarrhea after about 3 hours and up. It's like once it starts I have to stay near the bathroom or else. I was even awakened from a sound sleep at 1:45 a.m. . My stomach makes a bubbling sound with a mild ache and that is the only warning. It comes out quick but everything looks well digested and I don't see any flaxseeds. I just sifted about a tablespoon in my tossed salad which lasted me for three meals. The flaxseed was the only ingredient that was new to me that's why I think it may be the cause of the diarrhea.
Flaxseed is very healthy and high in fiber which is why you may be suffering from diarrehea. Your digestive system and stomach might be happy, but it's also overwhelmed with the amount of fiber it's getting.
Just 1 tablespoon has about 2 grams of fiber. That 1 tablespoon provides 8% of women's recommended intake and 5% of men's daily fiber intake... It quickly adds up.
So if you're eating a lot of other foods high in fiber on top of that, you may be getting too much and is causing you to have diarrhea. Don't forget that the (presumably mixed green salad) you're eating contains fiber as well.
You mentioned you put flaxseed on your salad which lasts you three meals. Is all you're eating salad (which you've put flaxseed on) three times a day? In that case you're only eating fiber. If you eat almost no fat for example, it helps give you diarrhea because you're not eating anything that balances out with the fiber you're eating. Fat, salt, etc do the opposite of fiber.
I would suggest keeping track of how much fiber you're getting every day. Also, if you're not used to a lot of fiber, your system may be in shock and you may need to increase your fiber slowly.
