I switched from methadone to suboxone, we waited 3 days but still threw me into the worst withdrawals. I have kept taking subs no for about 3 weeks and i dont feel all great like everyone says, Should i stop the suboxone, go into withdrawal, then resart suboxone? I was never in withdrawals between methadone and subs, so i dont know if i have to go into withdrawal for these to work. I had asked my dr and he said it is a good theory may work. also, will the subs stop my withdrawal symptoms from subs? Please help, i really want to stay clean and my cravings are awful, i dont know what to do
I bet your sub dr has you taking 16mg a day or more too. Sounds as if he has no idea what he is doing. You need to be at a 26 score on the COWS (clinical opioid w/d scale) worksheet when you induct on subs. That's why you went into precip w/d, and when that happens you should STOP taking subs right then and get it straight. Your problems are going to follow you until you do this right. If you stop and let yourself get into severe w/d I can induct you on the discussion forum at probably 3mg or so. I've done it a thousand times. Let me know if you want to follow my suggestion. Here is a link to the COWS worksheet for your convenience. I am also attaching the link to how I've worked with people on subs here for years on the forum. God bless. :)
Hey Subgirl31, and welcome to the site. The switch to suboxone from methadone is the trickiest, and if you would like to talk almost directly to Robert_325, click on the forum/discussion boards prompt and start a thread to him there. I don't know how you have stood the precip, but I do agree you dr may not be as familiar with suboxone and the switch to methadone as he should be if he is going to attempt that. But the fact that he at least listened to you says he cares and it willing to learn. The precip occurs when the 2 meds are fighting it out for the same space on the receptor sites and methadone and suboxone both recede slowly. The next thing I am going to tell is that at 16 mgs per day, half of what you are on, suboxone normally will sit on the sites quelling withdrawal and craving and blocking opiate euphoria for 3 to 5 days, if the suboxone is actually sitting there yet. Most are not in precip like you are when they write, so, try this ( failing you getting in touch with Robert) try to go 3 days with NO suboxone, then when you restart ( and I do agree, if you can google the COWS sheet, take the test, ya want to be at 26 or above) and start with 2 mgs and wait 2 full hours, if you feel somewhat better, but need more relief, take 2 more mgs, if you feel worse or are vomiting, stop and wait a day or 2 more and repeat the steps I just told you. Really, I know you are at too high a dose now of suboxone, but, with you feeling so bad and having had methadone in your system, I am not positive it has had room yet to sit down and work, that methdone has to give up the space first. Remember, you can always take more suboxone in 2 hours if you have to, but if you take 8 mgs, and are going into precip, the symptoms of precip will be much milder with 2 mgs than 8. 2mgs is one quarter of a film or tablet. Stay hydrated and try to get a walk or 2 in per day, it can be as brief as 10 minutes, this may help metabolize the methadone a bit quicker. I know 2 mgs sounds crazy low compared to what you are on, but honestly, rarely does anyone need more than 8 mgs of subs per day. Drs aren't taking it, we are, and most patients know a bit more than the drs do about suboxone after they have been on it a while. Best of Luck, keeping you in my prayers, please update us, we care around here. Patti
