i was just wondering if 2 mg of suboxone every other day would be sufficient to kick a 60-90 mg a day oxy habit
I would have to say "NO", but then, that's just me. I was taking 40mg of Lortab, 40mg Oxycontin, 2mg Ativan, Lunesta , and the occasional trip to the ER for IV Dilaudid for migraine H/A's. When I finally reached rock bottom and decided to get off of all that poison, I started taking 8mg Suboxone tabs twice daily. That is where I am at right now. I've been taking that dose for 15months now and because it helps with the migraine pain, I plan to stay on it long term, A's in forever. Most people only take Suboxone for a couple of months and then wean down off of it. From what I've been reading on these sites, it is not fun trying to get off of Suboxone. I hope that I never have to find out. hope you have a really good addiction specialist, and not just some random doctor who took the 8th class to prescribe Suboxone. Suboxone has two different drugs in it.
One is Buprenorphine that is the opiate, and the other is Naloxone or what is commonly referred to A's Narcan, which is an opiate antagonist. In other words, if you tried to shoot up Suboxone you would go into precip withdrawals due to the nalaxone. The generic of this drug is called Subutex. it only contains the Buprenorphine. it is also supposed to be cheaper, at least that is what my doctor told me. hope this helps. my keyboard doesn't want me to type the word A's!! I don 't have the capital key on, it just keeps doing this. Sorry!, NIK
kinda depends on your own brain and body. I think 4 mgs would be better but you can try it. Whatever makes you comfortable and keeps you from craving is going to be ok. i highly recommend the counseling for addiction and some strong support to aid you on your quest to get and stay clean.
Are you asking whether you can start suboxone at that low a dose or taper to that dose in order to stop suboxone? First of all, you need to be in withdrawls by at least 12 - 24 hours after your last dose of oxy and score at least a 24 on the COWS before initiating the suboxone. Then you need to gradually increase you dosage of suboxone to reach a maintenance dose which then needs to be maintained for at least 3 - 6 months. Usually the maintenance dose is between 8 - 12 mgs a day though some docs prescribe more. Then you can slowly taper off the suboxone.
Are you under a docs care? Best to do this while under a doc's care and with addictions counseling to be most successful.
I hope I have given you some info that you needed and not misunderstood your question, keep in touch,
