I'm under Pain Management for Back surgery. My doctor goes back and forth with these two meds. They both don't rally stop my pain. which is stronger for my pain in the back and sciatic area? I take 1 1/2 of the Percocet (per my doctor) and then Dilaudid 4mg when it is worse (per my doctor)
They are pretty much equivalent to each other as far as strength. Everyone is a little different as to what works best for them. You become tolerant of opioid medications after taking the same one for a period of time (the time it takes can vary person to person) so many Drs will "rotate" meds to help check tolerance. Just because you are tolerant to one opioid doesnt mean you are tolerant to the equivalent dose of another. So that is what your pain doc is doing. Rotating between two equivalent doses.
