Amitiza, is a prescription laxative that is helpful for people with chronic constipation, of unknown cause, or irritable bowel syndrome with constipation. Amitiza is classified as a chloride channel activator; it draws extra fluid into the bowel, which helps the stool pass through more easily.
The most common side effects of taking Amitiza are nausea, diarrhea, headache, abdominal pain, abdominal distension, and gas. Side effects from Amitiza are generally short lived. You should speak with your doctor in a day or two if you are still having problems.
