Hi I've been on methadone 3 yrs and decided to get off and Saturday morning at 9 I took my last dose! The doctor said Monday I should start suboxone as soon as I start to feel withdrawels! But its Tuesday morning and I still don't feel any! I thought ur suppsed to wait 48 hrs to 72 before switching, witch today would be 72... I dunno what to doo
Talk to the subs doctor and tell him/her that you have not had any withdrawal yet. Methadone is a long acting opiate replacement and it still could be in your body if you have NOT felt any withdrawal. You are supposed to be in withdrawal before you start suboxone, if you aren't and there is still methadone on the receptor sites in your brain, you risk precipitated withdrawal. Call your suboxone doctor, you should have been given more info than he/she gave you. Usually they induct in the office. Google the COWS sheet( clinical opiate withdrawal scale) you should take this quiz when you are in withdrawal and hit at least a 26 on the test in order to be sure precip won't occur.
It take at about two to three days to really feel the withdrawls of methadone and can last up to 3mths to fully feel Narcotic free. But the first three weeks WILL suck ass, not gonna lie. But the last thing u wanna do is switch one Narcotic for another, Subox... is only a lil less servere to get off of. Go cold, find shit to do, sleep will be non existant for the three weeks, but it's worth the outcome, u feel stronger when u can push urself through this. Good luck!!
