Hi, I've had dental surgery twice. I'm allergic to all forms of penicillin and have to be given an IV antibiotics before they can do anything. The first time I wasn't taken off of plavix but the second time I was. It depends on why you are taking the plavix and what type of dental surgery you need. The second time I was hospitalized and put on IV antibiotics but I was given heparin shots in the stomach every 12 hours to take me off of the plavix. Mine can't be stopped outside of a hospital and it took 7 days before they could do the surgery. Heparin has a 12 life span and they won't give it to me to go into surgery. Then I'm put right back on it as soon as I'm out of recovery. It really depends on your condition.
