I had stents 5 years ago and have been on Plavix for 5 yrs. My doctor says that I can go off of it but I am scared that if I do then I would be susceptible to stroke, heart attack, etc. What should I do. I take a 81 mg aspirin every day also. All stress tests have been good since I had the stents.
Hello swerner and welcome to DC. I hope during these past 5 years that you have adjusted well and following a healthy lifestyle which includes some form of activity to keep those stents clear. If your doctor says you have had enough of that med... it certainly doesn't mean that your doctor isn't going to continue to look after you. A lot of what happens next is how you have taken care of yourself up to this point and then continue to take care of yourself from here on.
Talk with your doctor if you are afraid and let that medical professional set your mind at ease. You must be doing fairly well don't you think? Don't let "fear" run you... live the life you want to live as best as you can and be responsible about the things that you need to do to have the best life you can.
Be well and peace to you in your world...
