I have been unable to sleep at night, not falling asleep until 5 am or so. Normally when I fall asleep around that time I will only sleep till about 11. Well, last night I haven't slept at all. Obviously it's way too late for me to even attempt to try now as my 6 yr old son will be home today and I'd like to see if I could get to sleep tonight if I can keep myself awake all day. I'm just not sure how to go about doing this. I've made my coffee but it usually ends up giving me an upset stomach before I'm even half way done with it, and I've taken two 200mg caffeine pills, but honestly caffeine has never really had an affect on me. I just don't know what else to try. I have nothing going on today and there is absolutely nothing to keep me busy so I know here in the next little while it's gonna hit me hard. I don't want to me miserable all day but I want to be able to get to sleep at a decent hour. Also, my stomach can't tolerate those Monster drinks and can barely tolerate Red Bull, but again, it doesn't do much to give me energy. Any suggestions please! Thank you!
If you have daytime fatigue and problems sleeping at night, you might want to speak to your doctor about a stimulant like Adderall or Vyvanse. I'm currently on Vyvanse and I'm up all day long and I'm out like a light at night, sleep 8 hours straight, where before I was constantly tossing and turning all night and taking naps all throughout the day due to excessive fatigue. I don't know about today, but that might be a long term goal to reach. There's also Provigil, which is similar but not in the amphetamine family like the first two I mentioned, which is on label prescribed specifically for narcolepsy and excessive daytime sleepiness.
Hi. Welcome. Your situation sounds pretty miserable. Caffeine like you are taking can have a real kickback for you. First it stays in the system a long time. Second, taking redbull, caffeine pills can cause heart problems, and we never know if we will be the one who has the heart attack or stroke. No need to have your child not have a mom. Third, suddenly stopping caffeine has a kickback of headaches, anxiety and mood swings.
You sound a combination of bored and anxiety. At this point your regular circadian rhythm is reversed. So just like a baby who doesn't want to sleep at night you will need to work on this for a while.
Your best bet is to see your physician, tell the doc all you have tried and what you are doing to keep yourself going. The more info given, the better your results. Sleeping through exhaustion for less than eight hours will just leave you more sleep deprived. Be sure you write it all down before you see the doc so things are not forgotten.
Not sure if your child is at home all day or if you have other help. Right now you will need that so you can get a better schedule. Perhaps there is a craft, sewing, painting, something you enjoy or would like to explore to keep you busy and find fun. Take walks during the day to build up natural endorphins. Just a few ideas for you. This is something you can fix and with some work and a good plan your life will improve. Karen
I guess you went through yesterday already! What you need now is to get your clock back to normal. You need to go to bed at the same time each night and get up around the same time each day. I don't know if you are on any meds or not but if you can you can get Melatonin at the pharmacy ( it's a pill that will help you relax and sleep, it's natural) Once you feel you can sleep on your own come off of them. I had to do this for my child a few years ago. It worked!
Hope it works for you!
