Iv'e been using Methadone for 8 months now and my Doc's say it's the strongest oral med to use. It's not that effective but they keep telling me that it's the best. Now they have added Butrans 5m and post dated for 10mcg for next month. I haven't put one on yet cause I'm a little worried about all the warnings with it. I have at least 9 medical terms wrong with my spine/back, and can't even get up in the am sometimes. They also give me a small amount of Norco thats suppose to last a month but I just go through those really fast, suppose to take 2- 2x's/day i use 6 or 7 easy..Just wondering if I can use this patch with the Methadone?
If the Dr prescribed it the answer if yes. Norco? I will say you shouldn't eat them like that if not for all the Tylenol your ingesting, but for the potential harm to your relationship with the Dr. Norco (for what you say is wrong with your body) is fairly lightweight, but I still would advise you against using them up so fast, it can hurt your chances to get anything stronger. Anyway, hope this helps.
The main object of the butrans patch is for constant pain relief so that you need only a med for breakthrough pain. I'm not sure how if you're taking methadone regularly they are going to know how high to take the butrans dose. What did the dr tell you? I think if he wasn't clear, I'd call him.
I would be very cautious using the Butrans patch containing buprenorphine with the methadone. The buprenorphine will replace the methadone on the opiate receptors in your brain and possibly cause precipitated withdrawals. Best to taper off the methadone before starting the Butrans. Once you are safely on the Butrans patch the Norco will have little effect.
