thought it was Freon (?) for air conditioning or maybe diesel fuel as I work in a construction co. I now smell this odor at work, home in my car. I have sjogrens syndrome don't know if that matters am on variety of meds for heart disease and sjogrens. What do you suggest other than I might be nuts. Thank you
This happens to me all the time. I smell diesel or car exhaust smell constantly. It began happening to me when construction was taking place behind our house and they were using big diesel fueled equipment and our windows were open so I thought it was drifting in from outside then it got worse once we turned the A/C on! I thought perhaps the fumes were trapped in the attic and coming in via the A/C ducts but no one else in my family could smell it! Then I realized it is sinus related. Sometimes it is due to sinus infection. It can also be from meds that you take. You are not alone in this. Since you have Sjogrens, and your mucus membranes are dry from the disease, have your Dr check to be sure there is no sinus infection. I use saline nasal spray and Nasonex for allergies seasonally and I notice the "smells" are worse when I use the nasal sprays so it could be exacerbated by a chemical in these sprays, I dont know but I have had this occurring for a few years now. At times it is better and at times it gets worse. Just be sure to mention it to your Dr so they can rule out infection or neurological reasons that need to be addressed. More than likely it is one of your meds causing it. Mine seems to be worse when I am using the sprays.
