I have been on every other medication but they haven't helped much so my doctor is trying the newly approved Uceris which is an enteric coated med that works in the intestinal tract. He took part in the study and had good luck with his patients. I had previously been on Entocort but that only covers the first 1/3 to half of your colon. Uceris is supposed to coat the entire colon.
I tried it, but my co-pay is $50 and I couldn't afford it with my other meds. I didn't notice a major difference but did have a little more energy
I have been taking Uceris for approx 7 mos and so far is has controlled my Ulcerative Colitis. Around 2mos., I became very weak but that went away. I other side effect is thinning of the skin and hair loss. Other than that I trust in this medication. Good luck!
As far as I know, Uceris is not enteric coated. Unlike regular Budesonide, which is immediately released in the colon, Uceris is an extended release drug. Also, it supposedly has little if any absorption in the blood. I have been taking it now with great success for over 7 weeks. (I don't suffer from UC, my problem is Collagenous Colitis.)
