Ouch! Your doctor prescribed Metformin and didn't give you any coaching on what to expect, why he prescribed it, and what you should be doing to help the new med get that blood glucose number down to normal? I can relate to your shock, 4 years ago I was wheeled into my doctor's office in a wheel chair because I was too "wobbly" to walk and my right hand was shaking uncontrollably every 2-3 minutes. My Fast BG was 430... He proceeded to read me the riot act about diet, lifestyle, and how I had to take control or... Really bad things would start happening, and quickly. He got my attention! I researched diabetes, diet, Metformin, and drug interactions online until I was crosseyed! I placed myself on a super-low carbohydrate diet, eliminated almost all sugar, and dropped 55 lbs. in 60 days. Next doctor visit my Fast BG was 92, my blood pressure was noticeably lower, a full Lipid Panel (the big blood workup) showed everything closer to "ideal" than it had been in years. At age 63 I became my doctor's "Diabetes Poster Boy" LOL! Think of Metformin as a "tool" to help get that dad-gum blood sugar under control... but you CANNOT continue eating the same foods in the same amounts and expect the twice-daily pill to "fix" everything, sorry. Please educate yourself about Diabetes- to me it is a gun held to my head and it is MY finger on the trigger, not my doctor's. He agrees. I have been harsh, my dear, but I intend to see my great-grandsons graduate high school... and if I have to do without all the delightful foods advertised on TV constantly, so be it.
Its common for diabetics to have high blood pressure. Also, because diabeties can cause heart problems, doctors like to get your cholesterol numbers down further than normal patients.
The drugs have been tried in combination for so long that the interactions are well known.
blood sugar rises after a meal and for a couple hours afterwards. 264 is a pretty high base number and so is 330. You'll probably need some additional drugs (glipizide, insulin, farxiga or victoza). Its not too bad the drugs they have for it these days.
Diet and exercise can drop your numbers fast as well. Take a thirty minute walk after a meal and you'll numbers can drop pretty fast. Limit your carbs as well. Knocking just 10 grams of carbs off a meal can lower your number 25 points or so depending on your weight and how insulin resistant you are
