I called my doctor and she told me stop taking my Norco 10-325 and put on another 25mcg patch. So now being on 50mcg patch total, I still have NO PAIN RELIEF! Please help! My pain management Dr. did a back procedure on the 2nd of August and injected me with steroids in several areas of my Lumbar back. I have bulging disc and many little fractures and deterioration also arthritis! I really have been in more pain since this procedure! Can anyone help figure out why more pain and why this new patch medication doesn't work for me?
I am having a similar problem. My Dr started me on the 25mcg patch a few weeks ago and just bumped me up to 50 a few days ago. I realize that after being on oral pain meds for years, the patches will take some getting used to because there is no immediate pain relief such as when I take a pain pill. I am not sure how much time I should give it before I decide on a different option. I plan on trying a couple more weeks but in the meantime, being in so much pain is certainly difficult! Let me know how it works out for you
It sounds like they have to continue to up your mg's until you get to the dosage that gives you relief. I also had to gradually taper ONTO the Fentanyl patch 15 years ago. I started at 25mg nothing... 50mg nothing... 75mg pain relief started. I don't know why your doctor told you to stop your oral meds. You should really have oral meds along with the patch for breakthrough pain. I'm now on 100mg Fentanyl patch ALONG with ES Norco for breakthrough pain. Sometimes I have alot of breakthrough pain and have to take them, and sometimes my pain is under control without them. My point being I always have them should I need them. Pain is fluid. Some days it's bad, some days it's not. It can't be predicted.
Also, I've found when taking off a patch and replacing it with a new one, I need the Norco until a good amount of the medication in the patch gets into my system. I have also found if I place the patch on a part of my body that has a good amount of subcutaneous fat and the skin is thin (I use my lower abdomen), the patch absorbs MUCH better. If I put it on a more muscular part of my body like my arm I get NO PAIN RELIEF AT ALL... I've found the flat Mylan brand works much better than the brands that have the liquid resevoir type (Ex. Watson). Ask your doctor if he can prescribe oral breakthrough pain meds in addition to the patch. Good luck and I hope this helps in any way.
