... was causing issues with my heart. I only take 5 Mgs of the lexapro and have only been on it for one day. I already feel more anxious even after one day. Is this normal?
It is not unusual to have increased anxiety when starting many antidepressants. It can take a couple of weeks for any side effects to subside or go away. The xanax can help you through the transition as long as your doctor is aware that you are taking it. I have been on Lexapro 5 mg for 6 days and have noticed a decrease in anxiety. But everyone is different. It can take up to 6-8 weeks to reach a therapeutic level. We just have to hang in there and give the meds a chance to work. Feel free to post how you are doing. You are not alone :)
Last fall 2017, I also was switched from Celexa to Lexapro
I had been on Celexa for years. Went up to 25mg. But, reading this med can cause heart palpitations and not recommended over age 60, I began Lexapro.
My first dose was comparable to dose I'd been on with Celexa (25mg of Celexa = 12.5mg Lexapro) I felt like a zombie. Yes, it's normal to have more anxious feelings That will go away. I took a small amount of valium to help myself deal with symptoms. (Which I don't like to do at all !! Only had to do this once) I was very low and had a hard time getting through week. But kept a journal n was better by next week. I had to make myself walk. I remember walking, crying n praying for God to help me feel better. I kept faith that I was going to get better, and as days went by, I did.
My holidays were good. In January, 4mths later, I needed to increase to 15mg Life has been good. I was managing well. Now here I am 7mths later n just began to increase today. Working up to 17.5 I've had a lot of things bothering me lately. Age, now 62, fear of loosing my spouse (don't know how people adjust) Began feeling down and crying a lot ! I hear 20 mg is where the real dosage is to be. I just know for me I have to go very slow. The side effects are to much. Id certainly like to reach a plato' and get years of relief like I did from Celexa
For me, Lexapro is better for my motivation, depression, anxiety and OCD Also, I was sleeping well as long as I didn't eat sweets before bed, which always caused me to have weird dreams if not nightmares
I was told by phychirotrist that Lexapro is a good med and safe
Hope maybe something I've said will benefit you
