Hi i am sorry your having such problems i would call the doctor office and get a better answer most cough suppresents won't speed up your heart rate but don't take anything without talking with the doctor..if it is that bad call the exchange and see almost all the time it is a doctor that calls back..

Hi, stellar! Yep, what you shouldn't be taking is dextromethorphan, which is the cough suppressant in most OTC's like Robitiussin and Delsym.
Some suggestions you might try until you reach your doctor are: EmergenC, hot tea (preferably green tea) with lemon and honey (nature's cough suppressant), menthol-based cough drops.
Your cough may be from sinus or chest congestion, or post nasal drip. Drinking lots of fluids, using a humidifier, or just sitting in a very steamy bathroom or deep breathing over a boiling pot of water will thin mucus secretions which can help calm the cough reflex.
Best wishes to you! I'm very prone to respiratory problems so I know how miserable you are!! WCV
