My PCP has put me on lexapro which I was only able to take for 5 days due to the side effects. Next was Prozac. I lasted 18 days on that but the the uncontrollable body tremors ended that. I finally have gone to see a pdoc and she has me on 12.5 mg of seroquel and .5mg of klonopin prn. I am feeling a little better but I am developing some depression from all of this. My question is should I talk to my pdoc this week about another anti depressant and if so which one. I have been reading tons of posts and pledge you seem to have wonderful advise. Please help! Very frustrated!
Hi, schmutzy! The problem is that every antidepressant works differently for each individual and the side effects and effects can vary greatly.
For instance, I never had a side effect beyond mild nausea for a day or two with any antidepressant I've taken. But, unfortunately, a few people experience moderate to severe side effects and those are the people you hear from most.
Trying different antidepressants is a guessing game because there are no tests to determine which one will work best ~ it's all trial and error and you're not alone. Some 2/3 of patients have to try several before they find the one that best suits them.
Be patient and persevere and you'll be feeling better soon.
Best regards, Wildcat
Most people do very well on zoloft. I switched from Paxil for two wks. And I felt fine mentally ... but had bad stomach pain on that so forced to go back on Paxil which is not working for my depression. Could be it pooped out after 20 yrs. Anyways. I just filled script for genetic lexapro. I am not tapering just going right on it tomorrow. I hope it goes smoothly. Anyways. Good luck to you. Just remember when you first go on these medicines it does take up to 2 months to get leveled out.
