I do get 45 15mg Oxycodone a month as well for breakthrough pain but they don't last long on either medication. I'm thinking of asking for opana not sure what will work to cut down on breakthroughs. Need advice next appt coming soon.
I'll just explain that Opana (oxymorphone) is stronger than Dilaudid (hydromorphone). Opana does come in an extended release formula like the Dilaudid you are taking. Whether it will do the trick, not sure, but certainly worth mentioning to the doctor if the Diluadid er is not working.
Best bet with a pain Dr is not to ask for anything, rather tell him/her what you're experiencing and let them make the choices. With so much abuse and addiction Dr's red flag patients who seem to know a lot about pain meds, and then impinge on the physicians power and pride by self-prescribing. Hope this helps.
