Hi I was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma (in the soft tissue not bone) on April 12th, 2013. I have a tumor in my tongue and some spots in my lungs. I had multiple chemotherapy's and radiation on my tongue and the tumor has stopped growing and has shrunk some they think the tissue is dead. But the spots in my lungs continue to grow and I'm suppose to start Votrient tomorrow but I am scared to death!!! Reading through everything on it has me terrified and I really need advice. I want nothing more than to get this under control and kick its ass!
Votrient is often used after other chemotherapy hasn't completely removed or shrunken a tumor. This probably means it's like getting a bigger gun to attack the remaining cancer... or kicking its a__, as you put it. Treating cancer often involves very strong medicines with plenty of potential side effects you don't want. You have to decide if you want the cancer or the drug to get rid of it or reduce it. You know you could look up the side effects of ibuprofen or other common drugs and you will still see a list of side effects you don't want. You aren't going to get most of the side effects because the list is of every kind of side effect that has ever happened to anyone taking the drug. Thousands or 10s of thousands or possibly millions of people and their experiences are in the lists of side effects. You are likely to get a few of the common ones, but no one really knows ahead of time. You can always discontinue the drug if the side effects become too much for you after you've given them time to recede.
My husband has pancreatic cancer that should've killed him 2 or 2 1/2 years ago. Pancreatic cancer is considered terminal. He's now clear of any cancer for 2 years. We researched and listened to his oncologist regarding non-prescription things that help beat cancer. Taking curcumin and keeping any sugar out of your system are 2 of the things we and his oncologist believe helped. He did this in conjunction with chemo, radiation and surgery. The only cells in your body that can't go to an alternative source of energy besides sugar are cancer cells. When he cut all sugar it made a significant difference. Curcumin and red cider vinegar have tremendous helping abilities for the rest of your body and discourage cancer. To find out more about each of these 3 and how much to take, search the internet. You'll find the answers.
You can also find suggested amounts of curcumin and red cider vinegar to take right now during your cancer treatment. How much you need can possibly vary with the type of cancer you have and where you are in your treatment.
You can look up OncoQol products to find the curcumin and iron recommended for cancer patients in remission. These products have some other ingredients that are helpful, too. Please don't take these particular products without asking your oncologist about them since you aren't in remission yet
Iron supports cancer so don't take iron supplements without asking your oncologist. That's why you may be allowed to stay anemic. You'll tire more easily than normal and have less energy.
