I have faithfully been on birth control (Junel Fe 1/20) for 3 almost 4 months now. I am starting my placebo pills tonight at 10 and I have them until for a week. I was going to get my prescription early and skip the placebo pills and just take my hormone pills. My partner has ejaculated inside me a few times this week, and I have heard that sperm can live in the body for up to 6 days. I am stressed to the max because I feel unprotected. I started last week and it lasted 3 days while I was on my hormone pills, but I have never had my period on the placebos. So am I just unprotected for the next week? I can get my new pack on Wednesday. Please help. :(
If you're taking your pills right, you're protected all the time. It doesn't work like if you take an active pill that day your protected. That wasn't your period, it was break thru bleeding and it can happen when you're on the pill. When you have your period or bleeding has nothing to do with your protection.
There are no hormones in the inactive pills but if you have taken all the active ones correctly for the month, you are still protected, even during the week of inactive ones! No worries! You are protected 24/7/365 as long as you take your pills like you are supposed to. Stop stressing! You may, on occasion, get some breakthrough bleeding while on your active pills. It is just your body adjusting to the hormones, especially in the first 6 months. Just try to take them every day at the same time of day to be most effective.
