I've been taking my first active pill on the day my next period starts. Is this correct or should I wait until all the reminder/inactive (white) pills are done regardless of when my next period starts? I usually start my period 3-5 days after my last active pill ends.
When to start the next pack - immediately upon next period or after inactive pills?

I'm not sure how many times this has to be explained but here goes. You are supposed to take ALL the pills from one pack, then start the next pack. Starting or stopping pills is not dependent on your period in any way shape or form after the first month. Please ladies, ask your doctor to explain these things to you, before you leave the office with a prescription.
kaismama told you right. You must take all the pills in the pack in a 28 day pack. A 28 day pack has a weeks worth of inert or inactive pills the last week. This is the week in which you get your period. Even though these pills do not have any medication in them, it is recommended that you do take them to get yourself accustomed to taking a pill every day and this way there is no confusion on when you are to start the next pack. Occasionally you see 21 day packs which are three weeks worth of active pills. If you have a 21 day pack you take all of the pills then skip a week then start a new pack. Most likely you have a 28 day pack which contains the inactive pills for the last week. The only time you period matters is in waiting for your period to begin the pills. Once you begin the pills, you take a pill eachand every day no matter what your body is doing. You may experience breakthrough bleeding in the middle of a pack especially in the first few months. DO NOT STOP YOUR PILLS! Keep taking one a day no matter if you are bleeding or not.Eventually your body will regulate out and this will stop. When you come to the last inert pill in the pack on the 28th day, you then start the new pack on the 29th day no matter if you are still bleeding or not. One pill a day, every day! Very simple! You have been taking your pills incorrectly if you are starting your new pack the day your period starts. You are never going to get your body regulated properly if you do this!! Please take the inert pills for the full seven days before you start a new pack! Does that clear it up or do you still have questions? I really blame the Drs for this kind of confusion. These Drs and clinics are doing a piss poor job of educating you girls when you are there!
