It is usually advisable to give it 4-6 months. Mild side effects usually do go away and for each woman it is different time wise. Some have side effects for a few weeks, some longer. Mild side effects like nausea and bloating do go away in time as your body gets used to the hormones. Some women who get severe headaches from the pill will find that they may continue to get them and may need another form of birth control. If your side effects are troublesome to you or do not go away within a few months, talk to your prescriber. There are many pill formulations and there may be another formula that doesnt affect you as much.
