Tonight I accidentally took a 2mg oral estradiol thinking it was something else... Im sure its nothing but I am a worrier. Is this ok?
I am a patient who is also on SottoPelle pellets and maybe I can help you since I've been on them for 10 years. First of all, they are not "inserts" but precisely dosed pellets carefully measured by the SottoPelle physician based on your individual medical needs and surgically slipped under the skin. So there’s no need to keep those pills around when you already have a SottoPelle pellet that is dosed specifically for your exact hormone requirements. More importantly, you should call your SottoPelle doctor right away to let him/her know you accidentally took the oral estradiol. Studies published in the American Journal of OB/GYN show that oral estrogen can result in minor increase in clotting due to their first pass through the liver. In addition, they can lead to cardiovascular risks, breast tenderness, headaches, nausea, fluid retention, leg cramps, gallstones and increased risk of breast and endometrial cancer. So toss them in the trash where they belong and stick with your pellets -- hope this helps!
