I've had a sore throat (not scratchy) for over a week and a sore right ear with difficulty swallowing. My doctor prescribed a z-pack and amoxicillian as if it were strep throat. I've been taking both for two days with no relief. I have no fever, but have congestion and cough. I'm concerned these aren't the right meds. I'm wondering what my symptoms might suggest outside of strep throat.

Did your dr look at your throat? If so he can have a pretty good idea what is wrong. Drs look at a lot of throats and know the causes. You've only taken them for 2 days, they aren't miracle drugs. Antibiotics kill bacteria not stop the symptoms. When the bacteria are gone then the smptoms can stop. They are 2 powerful drugs, indicated for most bacterial infections. The only suggestions I have are viral causes, like a cold or flu. For that the antibiotics will do nothing. All you can do is treat the symptoms and wait it out.
