... I have severe sinusitis and the first course worked really well knocking out infection I had for over a year.On just antibiotics it wouldn't go away. It is still there, but much improved. I would like to do that again, antibiotics (amox. + clav.) with six days tapering off prednisone. When would it be safe do do again?
That question is really for your doctor. Prednisone reduced the inflammation in the sinus opening up the little holes that helped with drainage. This relieves the pressure as the fluid drains. The antibiotic got rid of the critters. So if you haven't been to a follow up yet, that is where you should start. Depending upon the rest of your health the doctor will make the decision.
If you have had a month or so and the pressure remains an issue, the doctor may prescribe again. However, prednisone makes one susceptible to infection. I suggest you continue to use a netty pot or saline sprays to complete the irrigation of the sinus. Also, many infections are viral, they have found, so treatment may vary. Best of luck with getting rid of it. I have had sinus problems for forty years. Been on prednisone for past eight. Something to consider. Karen
